The Marshfield Blue Jays flew into Willard, on Saturday morning with only one thing on their mind…VICTORY!! They accomplished their task!!!!!
Game one was against Ozark, bright and early at 8:00 a.m. The two teams were pretty evenly matched and the score reflected that. Ozark scored the first goal with only 4 minutes left in the first half. Thus, going to halftime with a 0-1 score, in favor of the Tigers.
Freshman, Robert Martin was the first Jay to score, in the 23rd minute of the second half ,with an assist from Willis Zirschky, this proved to be the only score of the second half. The match ended with a 1-1 tie.
Marshfield, then turned around, and played another team of Tigers. The match against the Willard Tigers started at 9:30, and the Jays were just getting warmed up. Willis Zirschky put one in the box just 3 minutes in the game. Ethan Jernigan followed suit in the 4th minute, with an assist from Zirschky. Both players are sophmores. The game went to half with a score of 2-0 in favor of the Jays. That proved to be the final for the match, but it was enough to win! A few of the stats for the game are: GK Cory Dotson 9 saves, Shots at goal are as follows: Willis Zirschky 9 , Robert Martin 3, Ethan Jernigan 2, Ethan Replogle 1, Wesley O’Neal 1 Austin Fairbairn 2. Special mention to Caleb Owen, Chance Lafferty and Sam Callihan for their good defense. All of the above mentioned players are sophmores, with the exception of Freshman Martin.
The final game of the day, for the Jays, started at 2:00 p.m. against the Aurora Hound Dogs. Wesley O’Neal started the scoring off in the 3rd minute of play, with an assist from Ethan Jernigan. The next goal came just 3 minutes later, off the foot of sophmore CJ Obermaier, assisted by Wes O’Neal. 8 minutes into the half Robert Martin claimed one for himself by planting the ball firmly in the net. The 4th goal came from Ethan Jernigan with the assist from Martin. The score was 4-0, Jays, at half time.
The second half started off with a bang when Willis Zirschky planted one in the box just fifteen seconds into the half! The final goal of the match came when Wes O’Neal put one more in, making the final 6-0. This gave the Marshfield JV Blue Jays the 1st Tournament Championship for the Boys Soccer Team in the history of the program. WAY TO GO JV BLUE JAYS!!!!! The stats for this game are as follows: Shots at goal: Wesley O’Neal 5, Willis Zirschky 9, Ethan Jernigan 6, Austin Fairbairn 2, Chance Lafferty 2, CJ Obermaier 1, Kyle Cary 1, Ethan Replogle 2, Eddie Lovan 1. If I missed any stats I apologize, these are my personal counts and not the official counts from the game.
I must give an honorable mention to the Jays, Coaches for inspiring the boys to work as a team and prove to themselves that they are winners. THANK YOU! Coach Curtis Richardson and Coach Jim Jones. Also special Thanks to Ben and Angela for their continued support and hard work.
I will add pictures of the game as they are made available to me.
The next game for the Jays will be Monday in Camdenton at 4:30. GO JAYS!!!

Blue Jays Bite Bulldogs

Friday, September 29th, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jays met the Central Bulldogs on neutral ground, Thursday evening, at Cooper 1. The cool weather seemed to fire the Marshfield team up. The first goal, in the first half, was off the boot of Ethan Jernigan from an assist by Jesse Day. The second was put in the box, by James Reese with Jesse Day getting another assist. The match went to halftime with the score of 2-0 in favor of the Jays.
During the second half, Ethan Jernigan once again was the first Jay, to put he ball in the box , this time Willis Zirschky got the assist. Later in the game, Jesse Day decided to get one for himself with a breakaway, to make the score 4-0. Goal number 5, came off a, right footed shot from Zirschky, ( I only mention because he is a lefty) with an assist from James Reese. Freshman, Robert Martin made goal number 6, unassisted. The final goal in the match, for the Jays, came from Junior, Joe Callihan, also unassisted. The Bulldogs did score one goal during the second half from a corner kick, making the final score 7-1 in favor of the Blue Jays.
I just want to mention some of the other statistics of the game:
Defender Adam Callaway got a save, GK Cory Dotson got 5 saves, Jesse Day had 2 assist and 1 shot at goal besides his point scored, Ethan Jernigan got an additional shot at goal to go with his 2 goals, Wesley O’Neal took a shot at goal, Willis Zirschky got 7 shots at goal to go with his score and Robert Martin had an additional 2 shots at goal. I am sure there are more stats but, these are all I could get off the sheet. The point of it all is, that the team is continuing to take the shots and the more they shoot the more they will score!!! The JV game was cancelled. But, the JV Jays will travel back to Willard to the tournament this weekend. First game bright and early, at 8:00, the second is a 9:30. GO JAYS!!!!
If you have any comments please post them, we want to know you are using the site!!!

Blue Jays Travel to Tiger’s Lair

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jay’s traveled to Willard, Tuesday to take on the Tigers at their home field. The game was pretty equally matched with both teams fighting to score. The teams went to halftime without either one putting the ball in the box. It certainly wasn’t for lack of trying, both teams came out playing hard and with conviction. This speaks volumes about the improvement on behalf of the Blue Jays. They continue to keep the other teams at low points.
The second half was more of the same intense play. The Tigers were the one’s to score though, with only 12 minutes left in the game. That proved to be the only goal of the night. Once again the Jays have nothing to hang their head’s about. They continue to play older more experienced teams and get better with each game. Watch out next time, Tigers!!!
It was good to have Junior Adam Callaway back on the field after an absence from an injury at the Hillcrest game.

The JV team also played and for the first time this year just didn’t seem to have the vitality that they normally display. Everyone has an off day. The final score was 0-3, in favor of Willard. The JV Jays have a chance to redeem themselves this weekend at the Willard JV tournament. The first game is at 8:00 Saturday morning. Second game will be at 9:30. Not much time to regain their breath, but they are a strong team, and should do well. Go Jays!!!

Blue Jays Shine In Bolivar

Monday, September 25th, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jays played darn good futbol, in Bolivar this weekend. They participated in the Bolivar Liberator Soccer Classic and even though, they didn’t win the tournament, they played some of the best soccer they have played to date.
The Jays started the event on Friday night against the Liberators. The match was intense with Bolivar scoring 2 in the 1st half. But the Jays came out during the second and scored one, off the foot of senior, Thomas Hyde, in the 34th minute. The Jays managed to hold the Bolivar team to that score, thanks to great defense and keeper, Cory Dotson. The final for the game was 1-2, in favor of Bolivar. But, for those of you that remember the home game against Bolivar, that ended in a 2-7 loss, for the Jays, this game represents a dramatic improvement in play.
The Jays, second game, was Saturday morning, against the Central Bulldogs. The Jays once again showed great team work and got on the board in the 3rd minute, with a shot off the boot of James Reese, assisted by Robert Martin. The 1-0 score held until half time.
During the second half, the Blue Jays came out with a vengance, starting with a shot from Joe Callihan in the 49th, then C.J. Obermaier planted one in the box in the 52nd minute. Ethan Jernigan followed suit in the 55th, and Joe Callihan finished up, (his second goal), with 3 minutes left in the game. The final score was 5-0.
The final game pitted Blue Jay against Blue Jay, Marshfield vs. Greenwood. The Marshfield team played with great dignity and heart , but fell 0-1. GOOD WORK MARSHFIELD!!!!
Our next game will be in Willard , Tuesday at 4:30. GO JAYS!!!

Blue Jays Bullied By Bulldogs

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jays travelled to Dixon, Tuesday for a match up with the Dixon Bulldogs. The Dixon team had 8 starting seniors, while the Jays oldest players were Juniors. The Jays just didn’t seem to be able to get their legs under them. There were several shots at goal, but none were successful. The Bulldogs scored 2 in the first half. That proved to be all the Jays would give up. The Jays didn’t let the Bulldogs score again in the second, but they went home with their first shut out of the season. Final 0-2.
The same held true for the JV team, although they did seem to have more conviction of play then the varsity team. Let’s hope that is the last time that happens this season.
The Blue Jays will travel to Bolivar this Friday for Tournament play. The first game will be Friday night at 4:30. The second game will be Saturday morning at 8:30. Let’s hope the team regains the conviction and vitality that they have shown throughout the rest of the season so that they can come home with victories. GO JAYS!!!

Marshfield Total Soccer Team

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

Those players that want to play indoor with the team need to contact Dee Zirschky at 417 759-6130 Practice will begin after the High School season is over. The fee for 1 indoor season, 1 outdoor season, practice field fees and coaching is $365.00. If the team wishes to play an additional indoor season they will have to pay the league fee themselves. There is also an additional fee of $60.00 for the team uniform, this includes 2 jerseys, 1- shorts and 1-pr. socks. We need to collect the uniform fees as soon as possible as they have already been ordered and paid for by the club. We ordered 16 of them, so far only 4 people have paid. After the initial 16 are gone the cost could go up because we will have to order more and not get the bulk discount we got from our initial order. So act now to insure you get the discounted price. I think we can all agree that our team has shown great improvement by playing through out the year so let’s continue the trend.

Eagles Fly into Blue Jay Territory

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

The Nixa Eagles came to Blue Jay territory Monday night. There was a large crowd on hand to watch one of the most intense battles the Blue Jays have had this season. The Jays started the game with an offensive drive to have the 1st shot at goal of the game. Unfortunately they didn’t score. The older Nixa team used their experience to take the lead early in the game and hold on to it through out. One of the Eagles seven seniors, Danny Curro scored the first goal of the game and went on to claim a hat trick for his efforts. The Eagles eventually went on to win the match 6-1. The Blue Jays only goal came off the foot of Willis Zirschky in the last 2 minutes of the match, while taking a penalty kick.
Even though the Jays lost the match they played with GREAT heart and courage and have nothing to hang their heads about. The improvement in team work and technique were evident in the way that they played the game. This team has a very promising future to look forward to.

The JV Blue Jay team played with the same conviction as the varsity team and had very different results. Just 2 minutes into the match sophmore, Ethan Repogle took a penalty kick and planted the ball firmly in the back of the net. Making the score 1-0, which held until half time.
When the teams took the field after the half, the intensity remained the same. During the 49th minute of the game Blue Jay freshman, Cole Stevens took a shot and brought the score to 2-0. The match continued the same , when in the last 3 minutes of the game Ozark came back to make the game’s final score 2-1, in favor of the Blue Jays. This team, also has much to add to the future of the Marshfield Soccer Program.
Tuesday night the Blue Jays travel to Dixon, MO., with the game starting at 4:30. Go Jays!

Blue Jays Battle Warriors

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jays took on the New Covenant Warriors on their home field tonight in an awesome battle. The Jays were a force to be reckoned with! Jesse Day landed the first goal in the fourth minute of play off the assist of Joe Callihan. Then Callihan took a goal of his own off the assist of Willis Zirschky, just three minutes later. Later in the first half the Warriors scored to make the score at half time 2-1.
During the second half Ethan Jernigan booted another ball in the box with 11 minutes left in the game. He was assisted by the Jays only senior , Thomas Hyde. The Jays were not to be denied with a total of 19 shots at goal. Shots were taken by Thomas Hyde(1), Joe Callihan(3), James Reese(7), Jesse Day(3), Austin Fairbairn(1), Ethan Jernigan(1), C J Obermaier(1) and Willis Zirschky(2). The Jays continue to step up their game and improve with each match. Goalkeep, Cory Dotson had 13 saves allowing only one score by the Warriors. Thus putting the Jays record at 3-3-1, the best record in Marshfield Boys Soccer since the program started in 2000.
The next game will be Monday night on the Jays home field against Nixa. The start of the game will be delayed 1/2 hour to begin at 5:00 PM. GO JAYS!!!!

Not to be denied their place in the sun on the field, the JV team took the Warriors JV team to task also. They won with a final score of 5-2. The JV Jays first goal came off the foot of Ethan Repogle in the first half. The score at half time was 1-2 in favor of the Warriors. But the Jays came back out in the second and fought with a purpose. Robert Martin booted one in in the 42nd min, followed by a PK from Keeper James Reese at the 57th minute , Joe Callihan in the 59th and another by Robert Martin in last seconds of the game. It was a GREAT game to watch.
The entire evening was a wonderful thing to behold for Blue Jays fans.

Marshfield Jays Swarm Laquey Hornets

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jays took a trip north to the nest of the Laquey Hornets, Monday evening. The trip proved to be an adventure in more ways than one. The Jays stung the Hornets with the first goal in the first half , when Jesse Day planted the ball in the net off the assist of Willis Zirschky. Later in the same half the Hornets found their mark and tied the score 1-1. After more intense play from both teams, the Jays found the back of the net again off he foot of James Reese with the assist from Zirschky. Much to the dismay of the Jays, the Hornets answered with a goal of their own to go to half time with a tie.
The second half found both teams trying hard to break the tie and bring home the win. Time ran out with the tie standing. After a short break the teams retook the field to play 2, ten minute overtime. The Hornets made the first goal in overtime hoping that would seal the deal. But ,no such luck, it was the sky that broke, as a deluge of rain came pouring down on the fans and players. The game was delayed because of lightening.
Finally the teams returned to a sloppy field for a very intense 10 minutes. The Jays flew in to score the final goal of the evening off the boot from Ethan Jernigan to finish the game in a 3-3 tie. Thus making the Jays record for the season 2-3-1. The Jays return home on Thursday with a match against New Covenant, play starts at 4:30. GO BLUE JAYS!!!

The Blue Jays Take the Sting Out of Hornets

Friday, September 8th, 2006

Hillcrest Hornets vs Marshfield Blue Jays The Marshfield Blue Jays definitely took the sting out of the Hillcrest Hornets at Hillcrest’s home field, Thursday evening. The Blue Jays played strong even though they were missing their only senior. The Jays scored first off a well placed penalty kick from Willis Zirschky, when he was fouled in the box. the next goal came a few minutes later when CJ Obermaier sent one into the net. The Jays never looked back from there, Jesse Day planted another ball between the post to make the score 3-0. The fourth goal came when Willis Zirschky sent the ball up to Ethan Jernigan to head in for the score. The Jay’s final goal came when Robert Martin followed the play through after the Hornet’s Keeper didn’t get control of the ball. The Hornet’s did score in the second half to make the final 5-1. This sets the Blue Jay’s record at 2-3-0. These stats should continue to get better as the team continues to strengthen and polish their game. Our next game is Monday , 9/11/06 at Laquey. Let’s keep it going Jays!! For more GREAT photos of the game go to Springfield Soccer under the Friends heading to the right of the screen.
