Marshfield Jays Swarm Laquey Hornets
The Marshfield Blue Jays took a trip north to the nest of the Laquey Hornets, Monday evening. The trip proved to be an adventure in more ways than one. The Jays stung the Hornets with the first goal in the first half , when Jesse Day planted the ball in the net off the assist of Willis Zirschky. Later in the same half the Hornets found their mark and tied the score 1-1. After more intense play from both teams, the Jays found the back of the net again off he foot of James Reese with the assist from Zirschky. Much to the dismay of the Jays, the Hornets answered with a goal of their own to go to half time with a tie.
The second half found both teams trying hard to break the tie and bring home the win. Time ran out with the tie standing. After a short break the teams retook the field to play 2, ten minute overtime. The Hornets made the first goal in overtime hoping that would seal the deal. But ,no such luck, it was the sky that broke, as a deluge of rain came pouring down on the fans and players. The game was delayed because of lightening.
Finally the teams returned to a sloppy field for a very intense 10 minutes. The Jays flew in to score the final goal of the evening off the boot from Ethan Jernigan to finish the game in a 3-3 tie. Thus making the Jays record for the season 2-3-1. The Jays return home on Thursday with a match against New Covenant, play starts at 4:30. GO BLUE JAYS!!!
