The Nixa Eagles came to Blue Jay territory Monday night. There was a large crowd on hand to watch one of the most intense battles the Blue Jays have had this season. The Jays started the game with an offensive drive to have the 1st shot at goal of the game. Unfortunately they didn’t score. The older Nixa team used their experience to take the lead early in the game and hold on to it through out. One of the Eagles seven seniors, Danny Curro scored the first goal of the game and went on to claim a hat trick for his efforts. The Eagles eventually went on to win the match 6-1. The Blue Jays only goal came off the foot of Willis Zirschky in the last 2 minutes of the match, while taking a penalty kick.
Even though the Jays lost the match they played with GREAT heart and courage and have nothing to hang their heads about. The improvement in team work and technique were evident in the way that they played the game. This team has a very promising future to look forward to.
The JV Blue Jay team played with the same conviction as the varsity team and had very different results. Just 2 minutes into the match sophmore, Ethan Repogle took a penalty kick and planted the ball firmly in the back of the net. Making the score 1-0, which held until half time.
When the teams took the field after the half, the intensity remained the same. During the 49th minute of the game Blue Jay freshman, Cole Stevens took a shot and brought the score to 2-0. The match continued the same , when in the last 3 minutes of the game Ozark came back to make the game’s final score 2-1, in favor of the Blue Jays. This team, also has much to add to the future of the Marshfield Soccer Program.
Tuesday night the Blue Jays travel to Dixon, MO., with the game starting at 4:30. Go Jays!
