JV Blue Jays Soar To Tournament Victory!

The Marshfield Blue Jays flew into Willard, on Saturday morning with only one thing on their mind…VICTORY!! They accomplished their task!!!!!
Game one was against Ozark, bright and early at 8:00 a.m. The two teams were pretty evenly matched and the score reflected that. Ozark scored the first goal with only 4 minutes left in the first half. Thus, going to halftime with a 0-1 score, in favor of the Tigers.
Freshman, Robert Martin was the first Jay to score, in the 23rd minute of the second half ,with an assist from Willis Zirschky, this proved to be the only score of the second half.The match ended with a 1-1 tie.
Marshfield, then turned around, and played another team of Tigers. The match against the Willard Tigers started at 9:30, and the Jays were just getting warmed up. Willis Zirschky put one in the box just 3 minutes in the game. Ethan Jernigan followed suit in the 4th minute, with an assist from Zirschky. Both players are sophmores.The game went to half with a score of 2-0 in favor of the Jays. That proved to be the final for the match, but it was enough to win! A few of the stats for the game are: GK Cory Dotson 9 saves, Shots at goal are as follows: Willis Zirschky 9 , Robert Martin 3, Ethan Jernigan 2, Ethan Replogle 1, Wesley O’Neal 1 Austin Fairbairn 2. Special mention to Caleb Owen, Chance Lafferty and Sam Callihan for their good defense. All of the above mentioned players are sophmores, with the exception of Freshman Martin.
The final game of the day, for the Jays, started at 2:00 p.m. against the Aurora Hound Dogs. Wesley O’Neal started the scoring off in the 3rd minute of play, with an assist from Ethan Jernigan. The next goal came just 3 minutes later, off the foot of sophmore CJ Obermaier, assisted by Wes O’Neal. 8 minutes into the half Robert Martin claimed one for himself by planting the ball firmly in the net. The 4th goal came from Ethan Jernigan with the assist from Martin. The score was 4-0, Jays, at half time.
The second half started off with a bang when Willis Zirschky planted one in the box just fifteen seconds into the half! The final goal of the match came when Wes O’Neal put one more in, making the final 6-0. This gave the Marshfield JV Blue Jays the 1st Tournament Championship for the Boys Soccer Team in the history of the program. WAY TO GO JV BLUE JAYS!!!!! The stats for this game are as follows: Shots at goal: Wesley O’Neal 5, Willis Zirschky 9, Ethan Jernigan 6, Austin Fairbairn 2, Chance Lafferty 2, CJ Obermaier 1, Kyle Cary 1, Ethan Replogle 2, Eddie Lovan 1. If I missed any stats I apologize, these are my personal counts and not the official counts from the game.
I must give an honorable mention to the Jays, Coaches for inspiring the boys to work as a team and prove to themselves that they are winners. THANK YOU! Coach Curtis Richardson and Coach Jim Jones. Also special Thanks to Ben and Angela for their continued support and hard work.
