Blue Jays Hounded By Houn’ Dawgs

Friday, October 27th, 2006

The Blue Jay’s just couldn’t get it togther Thursday night in Aurora. They did get the first score in the first half, off the foot of Wesley O’Neal. The Jay’s had several shots at goal but just couldn’t get it in the box. They didn’t get another goal the rest of the game. The second half the Houn’ Dawg’s turned up the heat and the Jay’s just didn’t respond. The Dawg’s went on to get 2 goals and won the match 1-2. Had the Jay’s played with the passion and fire they have shown in past games the results could have been much different.
The JV team played tough, but due to fading light, had to go to a shoot out to determine the game. Thanks to the boots of Zeb Howard and Dallis Weber and a save by GK Willis Zirschky the JV team went on to win 2-1 in the shoot out. Congrats!
Tonight, Friday, October 27th @5:00 in Willard, the Jay’s are due to face Monett to earn a place in District play-offs. Hopefully the Jay’s will have regained their fire and burn up the field!!! GO JAYS!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Blue Jays Take On Tigers

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

The Marshfield Jays took on the Waynesville Tigers, Tuesday night at the Jays home field. The game was one of the best played by the Marshfield players. Unfortunately, the Jays were just not able to beat the older Waynesville team. The game was fast and very physical. The Jays only got one goal, but the team played with a lot of heart and determination. The only goal was scored by Robert Martin, with the assist coming from C.J. Obermaier. Shots at goal were as follows: Austin Fairbairn 2, Ethan Jernigan 2 and Willis Zirschky 1. GK Cory Dotson had 5 saves with special mention of defenders Duell Wilson who had 7 saves and Adam Callaway with 2. Even though the Jays had to take the loss, final 1-3, the improvement of play is evident. We just need to work on the power and accuracy of our goal shots. This leads to promise of more good play at Districts against Monett. First, we travel to Aurora, Thursday, Oct.26, to play the Houn’ Dawgs. Play starts at 4:30.
Next year’s season, should look quite a bit different than this year. The Marshfield team will be playing teams that are in the same age group. There is a lot of promise in this group of boys and they are determined to prove it!.
The JV team also played a good game but were just out gunned by the JV Tigers. They went to half with a 0-3 score. GK for that half, Duell Wilson had 7 saves. The second half GK Willis Zirschky had 2 saves. Final score was 0-5. Shots at goal: Joe Callihan 1, Ethan Replogle 2, Nathan Pierce 1, CJ Obermaier 3.
We would like to extend a special THANKS to Thomas Hyde, our only senior, who was honored last night. Thomas has been a member of the Marshfield Blue Jay soccer team for the last 4 years. He has played with a lot of heart and conviction and we appreciate him greatly. Good Luck Thomas!!! Thank You!!!! Thank you Robert for correcting my mistake!

Jays Host Lebanon

Friday, October 13th, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jays hosted Lebanon, Thursday night, in front of a shivering crowd. In the first half of the game, the Jays made the vistors aware that it wasn’t going to be a walk over. After a major tangle up at the goal box, Lebanon got the first score, from a misfired shot off one of the Jays. But later, in the that same half, Marshfield’s CJ Obermaier put one in the box with the assist coming from Willis Zirschky, who recieved the ball from a well placed pass off the boot of Austin Fairbairn. Proving once again that it takes a team to play soccer. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.
The second half proved to be a different kind of game. The Jays just didn’t come out with the same enthusiasm that they had exhibited in the first half. The defender’s, Adam Callaway and Duell Wilson get extra kudos for the way they played the game, helping to keep the score to the final 1-5.

The JV Jays also struggled with their task last night. they did play with alot of heart but just couldn’t subdue the visitors. The JV team did hold their opponent the first half, keeping the score 0-0 at half. The Jays came out and continued to thwart most of the efforts made by Lebanon. The final score of that game was 0-2.

Sorry, I don’t have stats for this game, I know we had several shots at goal and Cory Dotson had several saves, I just don’t have that info. I will try and redeem myself next time!

The Jays travel to West Plains, Monday, to play the Zizzers. Let’s get this one Jays!!! GO JAYS!!!!

Wild Ride For Blue Jays and Wildcats

Monday, October 9th, 2006

The Cassville Wildcats rolled into Blue Jay terriotory, Monday night, and a wild fight ensued. Both teams were fairly evenly matched and the play went head to head for the entire match. Halftime came with the score remaining 0-0.
The second half started with the same ferocity showing on both teams. It was a hard fought fight, right down to the wire. The second half ended, 0-0.
The first OT ended the same with 0-0. The second OT ended when the Wildcats put one in the box on a throw in. Final 0-1. Once again the Blue Jays are showing that they are a team to be reckoned with. They played hard and with tenacity. They just need to get more accurate with their shots. Here are the stats I got from Angela after the game. Shots at Goal: James Reese 7, Jesse Day 3, Austin Fairbairn 1, Ethan Jernigan 5, Wes O’Neal 2 and Willis Zirschky had 4. GK Cory Dotson had 4 saves. Keep trying boys, and play tough.
The JV team also played with conviction tonight. They went to half time 0-0. They came out from half and continued to play tough. In the last 30 seconds of the game the Wildcats took a corner kick and scored the only goal of the match. Final 0-1.
The Jays next game is Thursday night at home against Lebanon. JV starting at 4:30. GO Jays!!!
A special thanks to everyone who participated in the Raffle for the MHS Soccer Booster Club. I will let you know how much money we raised when we have time to count it. Also a special THANKS to the Marshfield Optimist Club for their very generous donation to the Booster Club.

Tough Fight For The Jays and Warriors

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jays journeyed to the field of the New Covenant Warriors, Monday evening. The Jays came out a little flat footed the first half, allowing the Warriors to go to half with a 2 point lead.
The second half was a different story. The Jays came out ready to play, and play they did! Ethan Jernigan planted the ball in the box with an assist from James Reese, making the score 1-2. Later in the half, Willis Zirschky crossed the ball to Robert Martin, who then proceeded to send it between the post to even the score. The game went to OT, after 2 ten minute halves, the final score remained 2-2. This gave the Jays their second tie of the season. GK Cory Dotson had 7 saves, shots at goal are as follows: Jesse Day 1, Austin Fairbairn 1, Ethan Jernigan 4, James Reese 1, Robert Martin 1 and Willis Zirschky 4. Keep shooting boys!

The JV squad played 2 ten minute halves, due to the fading light. Kyle Cary, Eddie Lovan, Zeb Howard and Ethan Replogle all got shots at goal but it was Wes O’Neal who booted one in the net, after 2 earlier attempts. O’Neal scored the only point for the Jays in the last 2 minutes of the match. Final 1-2, favoring the Warriors.

The next game will be at home, Monday,Oct. 9th. against Cassville. Game time 4:30. Don’t forget to purchase your Raffle tickets for the Drawing of the Sony PSP Package and about 20 other prizes, the drawing will be held at the Monday Night game. Proceeds go to the Marshfield Soccer Booster Club. If you are present at the game you can enter the 2nd half of your tickets, doubling your chance to win! GO JAYS!!!!

Blue Jays Visit Camdenton

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

The Marshfield Blue Jays took a trip to Laker country Monday night. The Varsity Jays played a tough first half and held the Lakers to 0-0 at halftime. Unfortunately, the Lakers came back from the break invigorated. They scored early, which seemed to take the wind out from under the Jays wings. The Jays continued to play but not with the determination that they had shown in the first half. Final score was 0-4. The Lakers took the victory. Willis Zirschky got one shot at goal and GK Cory Dotson had 6 saves.

The JV team didn’t faire any better, coming home with a 0-7 loss as well.
Tuesday, both teams play the New Covenant Warriors, at the Warriors home field. The Jays will be looking to bring home 2 wins! GO JAYS!!! YOU CAN DO IT!
