Catching Up on the Jays

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Since my last update there have been a lot of things happen. I will start with an apology for not staying more current on the events, but in my defense all I will say is this,” Vista and Dial up”and I dod haveaday job, I think that will explain everything. I will try and do better.
Last week, the Jays hosted the Nixa Eagles on Monday. The JV played first, with the usual 8-11 on the field. At halftime, the score was 0-1. The second half showed about the same results as the first, with the final score being 0-2. Nic Yonter got 4 saves in the second half. The JV has been playing really tough considering they have been playing 3-4 men down every game. Good job boys!
The Varsity suffered a loss also with the score at halftime 1-3. Ethan Jernigan got the Jays only goal of the half with Willis Zirschky assisting.
The second half had both Marshfield and Nixa getting a goal each. Robert Martin got the goal for Marshfield. Game final: 2-4 Keeper Cory Dotson had 13 saves.
Tuesday evening the Jays flew into Logan-Rogersville to play against the first year soccer team. Congratulations to Rogersville with the addition of your soccer program, welcome to the mix! The Varsity team played first. My notes and memory are fogging on the details but the basic info. on the game is as follows: final score was 5-1. The goals are as follows: 1. Ethan Jernigan, assist Willis Zirschky, 2. Willis Zirschky with a P.K., 3. Austin Fairbairn, assisted by Ethan Replogle, 4. Josh Hyde assisted by Ethan Replogle and the final goal came off the boot of Ethan Replogle.
The JV came home with a win also with Josh Hyde getting the first goal from an assist by Cory Day. There was another goal scored by the Jays but I don’t have the info, on that.(sorry) I believe the final was 2-0. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, as I had to leave early .
It was a hectic week for the Marshfiled team as they then travelled to Bolivar for the Bolivar Classic Tournament. The Jays played the Greenwood team and fell , if memory serves me well, I believe the final was 1-4, I just don’t remeber who got that goal.
Saturday, the Jays started by playing a tough Warrensburg team. The Jays took the loss with the final being 1-5.(I think) It is kind of all running together and I can’t find my notes on the tournament. I will be glad to edit if some one can get me the info. The Jays immediatley turned around and played Clinton for 5th and 6th place, which we won, I believe the final on the was 5-0.
Last night, Monday, the Jays drove all the way to Dixon to play the Wolves. Just minutes into the first half, the game was delayed due to lightening. When play continued it wasa battle . The Dixon team showed some real speed, but the Jays played with a determination that has been lacking lately. Th first half closed with no score.
The second half continued the fast paced play, with the Dixon team putting the ball in the box first. The Jays continued to play tough and their hard work paid off. They played a good passing game with strong drives and good defense. Willis Zirschky got the first goal unassisted. A little later, Zirschky got goal #2 from a penalty kick, and then later in the game Robert Martin assisted Zirschky with his 3rd goal of the game giving Zirschky a hat trick for his efforts. Good job Jays!!! The final score was 3-1.
Tonight the Jays take on Springfield Catholic in Marshfield game time 4:30. GO JAYS!!!

Jays Battle Warriors

Friday, September 19th, 2008

The Blue Jays battled the New Covenant Warriors in Marshfield, Thursday night. And, a battle it was!! Both teams came out with the desire to take home the victory. The first half was full of very intense play but neither team was able to get the ball into the opponent’s box. Thus, the first half ended with the score remaining 0-0.
The second half was a repeat of the first, with each team playing tooth and nail to get the advantage. Unfortunately, for the Jays it was the Warriors that prevailed. With 29 minutes remaining in the match, New Covenant slipped one past the Marshfield Keeper to score a goal. That proved to be the only goal of the match, making the final 0-1. Keeper Cory Dotson had 11 saves.
Just a word about one of our own. We would like to extend our warmest wishes for a swift recovery to Wes O’Neal, who was injured earlier in the season and is nursing a severely sprained ankle. Hopefully he will be able to return to play late in the season.

The JV Jays once again played two men short against the opposing team. But, they were not to be outdone by the numbers. The Warriors did score the first and only goal of the first half, but that would change during the second half.
The second half, had the same intensity of play that dominated the first. Nine minutes into the half, Kyle Cary took advantage of a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. New Covenent answered with a goal of their own just about three minutes later. Not to be outdone, Taylor Presson planted one in the box for the Jays. D.J. Hensley got the assist. The score held with the JV Jays getting a tie 2-2. GO JAYS!!!

The Jays will return to their home pitch to play Nixa , Monday, September 22nd at 4:30. They travel to Logan Rogersville Tuesday. Then, they make the trip to Bolivar over the weekend for the Bolivar Classic Tournament. GO JAYS!!!!!

Jays Fall To Liberators

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

The Marshfield Blue Jays played on their home pitch last night against the #1 ranked Liberators. After getting off to a rocky start, that had the Jays giving up a goal on themselves, in the first three minutes of the game, the Jays settled down to a tough battle. Bolivar scored their own goal in the 26th minute of the game, bringing their total to 2. The Jays weren’t going to give up, as C.J.Obermaier put one in the box from an assist by Eddie Lovan. Bolivar got off a shot while the clock was in stoppage time to bring the score to, 1-3 at the half .
Bolivar, started the second half with a goal just three minutes into the half, but that was the last they would make during the match. Ethan Replogle put one in the Bolivar box as the clock read 27:37. The Jays made several valiant drives, but just couldn’t capitalize on them. The game ended with a 2-4 loss for the Jays. Keeper Cory Dotson had 15 saves.
The JV Jays didn’t have any better luck as they played a field of eleven with only eight men of their own. They held the Bolivar team to just one goal in the first half. During the second half of the game they battled on but Bolivar managed to score in the 22nd minute of the half. Just a few minutes later, the Jays answered back with a goal of their own, off the foot of Cory Day with the assist coming from Josh Hyde. Bolivar scored one more with 5 minutes left in the match making the final 1-3. Keeper Nic Yonter got 13 saves.
We are REALLY PROUD of both teams for never giving up and playing with such brave hearts!!!

The Blue Jays have one more match this week , Thursday, at home against New Covenant. Game time 4:30. Be There!!! GO JAYS!!!
Next week the Jays have another hectic scheduele, starting Monday at home against Nixa, Tuesday, away at Logan-Rogersville and finishing the week in Bolivar at the Bolivar Classic tournament. I will post that schedule when it is made available.
GO JAYS!!!

Blue Jays Plunder Pirates

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

The Marshfield Blue Jays sailed into Pirate territory last night and created havoc, as they plundered the Branson Pirates. The game’s first goal was scored by the Pirates just about six minutes into the match. The Blue Jays stayed the course and answered with a goal of their own. The clock read 18:40 when C.J. Obermaier booted one past the keeper, with an assist from Ethan Jernigan. Branson came back just three minutes later with another goal to make the score 1-2 as the game went to half time.
The Jays came out swinging in the second half, as Willis Zirschky sent the ball up to Ethan Jernigan to tie the score in the first minute of play. The Jays never looked back. They played good solid soccer. Sharp passing and strong drives helped give Robert Martin goal number 3 , with the assist from D.J. Hensley. The Jays continued to dominate the Pirates the remainder of the game. With little over 8 minutes left on the clock, Zirschky sent the ball into play off a corner kick, that Jernigan sent to Obermaier, who put it right on into the box, thus sealing the deal for the Jays. The Jays take home their second victory of the year, making their record 2-2-0. Keeper Cory Dotson had seven saves. The entire team played an amazing game that was a true pleasure to watch. They exhibited good ball handling skills and a real sense of teamwork as they passed the ball deftly down the field. I look forward to seeing more of that kind of teamwork in the future.

The JV Jays were not as fortunate with the outcome of their game, but considering they played seven against eleven they did a PHENONINAL job!! Branson brought first blood just three minute in. The JV team was not to be shut out though, Cory Day got an unassisted boot past the Pirate keeper to tie the score with just seven minutes left in the half. Thus, the game remained tied, 1-1 at the half time whistle.
The second half saw the Pirates score 2 more goals and brought the final score to 1-3, Branson. Considering the circumstances, the JV team comes home winners in my book. They played 4 down with only one substitution at the half for the entire game. Keeper Nic Yonter had a fantastic 20 saves at the end of the game.

The entire Jay team should be proud of their efforts, I know we are. Special, “Thanks” to the Student Cheering section that has made it to most of the matches, your support is GREATLY appreciated!
The Blue Jays play at home tonight , Tuesday, September 16th against Bolivar. JV game will start at 4:30 with the Varsity game following afterward. GO JAYS!!!!

Jays Duel Dawgs

Friday, September 12th, 2008

The Marshfield Blue Jays traveled to Aurora,Thursday night, after losing Tuesday evening to Springfield Catholic. The Jays were looking to redeem themselves after a lackluster performance on the Springfield pitch, that ended in a 1-3 loss to the Irish. The only Marshfield goal came off the corner kick from Willis Zirschky, that was headed into the net by Ethan Jernigan. The Jays just couldn’t pull their game together to get a win. But that was about to change!!!
Last night the Jays flew into Aurora with one thing on their minds, WIN, WIN, WIN!!!! They did just that. C.J. Obermaier started the “ball rolling” with the first goal of the game. A little while later Ethan Replogle sent the second goal into the box with an assist from Colton Harden. The third goal of the first half, came off an unassisted boot from Ethan Jernigan. Thus the half ended with a 3-0 score.
The second half continued the Jays onslaught on the Houn’ Dawgs, with Robert Martin making his first goal of the year. This was soon followed by another goal for Ethan Replogle, assisted by C.J. Obermaier. The Jay’s showed no mercy when Willis Zirschky assisted Ethan Jernigan with his second goal of the game. Austin Fairbairn put his shot in the box, off another assist from Obermaier. It wasn’t long before Jernigan made his third goal of the game, assisted by Robert Martin. With that goal the Jays bring home their first victory of the year, with an 8-0 shut out for keeper Cory Dotson.
Not to be outdone, the JV Jays took the field ready to rumble. Cory Dotson scored the first two goals of the game, with one of them assisted by D.J. Hensley. Evan Barth scored the final goal of the match with an assist from Colton Harden, to bring the final score to 3-0. Keeper Nic Yonter gets the shut out for that game.
GREAT JOB JAYS!!!! That’s the way we like it!!!!
The Jays will travel to Branson, Monday night, then follow up with a Tuesday night game against Bolivar at home and finish the week facing New Covenant, at home on Thursday. The Jays will definitely have their work cut out for them next week, but I know they are up to the task. All they have to do is stay focused and play the game. GO JAYS!!!
Also a special note to the student cheering section, your support is REALLY appreciated. A final note, in the upcoming weeks the Soccer Booster Club will be holding a raffle of a Laptop Computer to raise money for the booster club stay tuned for more info.

Blue Jays Home Opener

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

The Marshfield Blue Jays started their 2008 soccer season at home, Tuesday night against the Ozark Tigers. Even the moisture from Gustav couldn’t dampen the spirits of the Jay fans as they watched their team slog it out against the Tigers. Both teams were fairly evenly matched and play was intense. The first half ended with neither team being able to score on the other.
The second half started with the same demanding pace . The Tigers got the first goal of the game, off a corner kick with just 10:41 left on the clock. The Jays just played with more determination. Then with the clock in stoppage time, Willis Zirschky answered Ozarks corner kick with one of his own. He sent the ball in to the far post and Ethan Jernigan was there to head it into the back of the box. This brought the game to a tie with just seconds left in the half. The fans went WILD!!!
The game then went to overtime and the first 10 minutes also ended with no score. Once again with just 2 minutes left on the clock, Ozark got a free kick from a questionable call by the official,(my opinion) they were able to capitalize on the kick which ended the game 1-2.
The Jays play their next game, Tuesday, September 9th at Springfield Catholic, at 4:30.
After, seeing the attitude and fire in the Jays tonight, we can look forward to a GREAT Soccer Season! GO JAYS< GOOD JOB!!
