Blue Jays Take The Sting out Of Hornets

Friday, October 17th, 2008

The Marshfield Blue Jays came on to the home pitch ready to play last night. The Jays took on the Lebanon Hornets in a game that had the teams pretty evenly matched. The Hornets stung first, early in the half when the ball found it’s way past the Marshfield keeper. Robert Martin took the sting out of the Lebanon team when he tied the score in the 29th minute of play. There is some dispute as to whether it is an assist or not, but Ethan Jernigan is the player that got the ball to Martin that enabled him to make the drive to the box. That score held through the half. The second half was a tough fight for both teams. The game remained scoreless, until Colton Harden sent the ball up to Robert Martin with just 5 minutes left in the game. Martin lobed one past the Lebanon Keeper to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Jays. That score held to give the Jays their second win in as many games. Great Job Jays!
The JV team also got a win from a goal by Cory Day which made the score 1-0. They only played one half. Nic Yonter got the shut out. Once again the team played with a disadvantage in the number of players on the field. GO Jays!!!
The Jays take on Cental , Monday night in Springfield, game time, 4:30. See you there . GO JAYS!!!

Jays Take On Wildcats

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

The Logan-Rogersville Wildcats came to the Marshfield pitch tonight to play the Blue Jays. After a long dry spell of losses the Jays brought the Wildcats down. The Jays struck early just 5 minutes into the game when Ethan Jernigan put one past the Wildcat keeper. But Jernigan was just getting started, he got a hat trick in the first half of the match. Jernigan’s second goal came from an assist by Robert Martin just a few minutes later. Martin also assisted in the 3rd goal when he sent the ball up to Jernigan from a corner kick in the 22nd minute of play. Martin didn’t just serve to Jernigan he also sent an assist up to Ethan Replogle who booted it into the net with just over nine minutes left in the half. Thus, the Jays went to halftime with a 4-0 lead.
The second half started off with Robert Martin getting a goal from a penalty kick just two minutes in. The next goal came when Willis Zirschky sent a corner kick up to Ethan Jernigan, making his fourth goal of the night. The Wildcats then answered with a goal of their own to bring the score to 6-1. The Jays were not to be stopped though, DJ Hensley was the next one put the ball in the box. With the clock reading 7:14, Robert Martin got his second goal of the night with the assist going to Colton Harden. Once again Logan-Rogersville came back to score one for themselves. The Jays weren’t done yet though, Willis Zirschky booted his first goal of the game unassisted, in stoppage time. Next Robert Martin got his 3rd goal, giving him a hat trick also. The final goal of the night came off the foot of Willis Zirschkky from a free kick , giving him a total of 2 goals for the evening. The final score was 11-2. GREAT JOB JAYS!!
The JV Jays also had a good night. Once again the JV Jays took the field 3 men down, playing a field of 11 with just 8 men. The team played hard and held the Wildcats 0-0 at the half. The second half, the Jays got 2 goals, both off the foot of DJ Hensley to bring the JV team a well deserved victory. Keeper Nic Yonter got a shut out. Final score 2-0. GO JAYS!!!
As an added note, I have to give big credit to the Logan-Rogersville Wildcats for never giving up. They are a new program this year and they never gave up , but continued to play with real heart. My hat goes off to them! There is definitely a promising future there.
The Jays will play their next game at home Thursday night against Lebanon. Game time 4:30. GO JAYS!!!
