Memories Of A Wonderful 2010 Season
Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010DISTRICT FINALS @ BOLIVAR – Facing Bolivar in district play – seems to be a tradition – as this is the third year in a row. The game started out slowly as both teams were kicking and waiting. Unfortunately, the 7th minute saw Tim Armstrong sneak the ball past the defense on a rebound to make the score 0-1. The Jays fought back in the 10th minute when a nice free kick by Koty Jones into the box was cleared by the defense. In the 11th minute, Clark Campbell passed the ball to Nicholas Harden who sent the ball just high. In the 15th minute, a free kick by Colton Harden was saved. In the 27th minute, a free throw from Ryan Doolittle into the box was heel kicked by Colton Harden to a waiting Clark Campbell who smashed it into the box to tie up the score 1-1. In the 37th minute, Matt Magana was tripped in the penalty box for a penalty kick that was taken by Mitch Waters, who buried the ball into the net to give Bolivar a 2-1 halftime lead.
In the second half, the intense play continued. In the 43rd minute, a flip throw by Matt Magana was headed in by an unmarked Tim Armstrong to make the score 1-3. In the 55th minute, the Jays crowd was on their feet as a deep throw in from Ryan Doolittle to Colton Harden was shot but hit off of the post. In the 59th minute, a through ball from Evan Barth to Christian Harden was just slightly too long as the goalie beat him to the ball. In the 63rd minute, a free kick from Colton Harden was inches too high. In the 66th minute, a pass from Colton Harden to Ryan Doolittle was just high. In the 71st minute, Matt Magana dribbled several defenders and made the score 1-4. The Jays had a fire light under them after this. In the 72nd minute, Colton Harden had a rocket that was barely too high. In the 73rd minute, a pass from Calvin Birsa to Trent Burks was just wide. In the 75th minute, a pass from Joseph Huber to Trent Burks was saved. In the 77th minute, a free kick by Clark Campbell into the box was cleared by the defense. Keeper Nic Yonter finished the night with 16 saves, 325 saves for the season, and 771 for his career. There would be no more scoring on the night. The final score: Bolivar -4, Marshfield -1.

You came together as a team and as young men this season. You were a joy to watch. The support of the fans and community was fabulous. It was really nice to see soccer being treated as an equal with the other sports in Marshfield. It is great to see so many realizing how fun it is to play this wonderful sport. Hopefully, we lost to the eventual state champs. Good luck to our seniors in college and looking forward to a great 2011!
