Blue Jays Home Opener
Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008 The Marshfield Blue Jays started their 2008 soccer season at home, Tuesday night against the Ozark Tigers. Even the moisture from Gustav couldn’t dampen the spirits of the Jay fans as they watched their team slog it out against the Tigers. Both teams were fairly evenly matched and play was intense. The first half ended with neither team being able to score on the other.
The second half started with the same demanding pace . The Tigers got the first goal of the game, off a corner kick with just 10:41 left on the clock. The Jays just played with more determination. Then with the clock in stoppage time, Willis Zirschky answered Ozarks corner kick with one of his own. He sent the ball in to the far post and Ethan Jernigan was there to head it into the back of the box. This brought the game to a tie with just seconds left in the half. The fans went WILD!!!
The game then went to overtime and the first 10 minutes also ended with no score. Once again with just 2 minutes left on the clock, Ozark got a free kick from a questionable call by the official,(my opinion) they were able to capitalize on the kick which ended the game 1-2.
The Jays play their next game, Tuesday, September 9th at Springfield Catholic, at 4:30.
After, seeing the attitude and fire in the Jays tonight, we can look forward to a GREAT Soccer Season! GO JAYS< GOOD JOB!!
