Blue Jays Get out of the Hornets Nest

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

The Marshfield Blue Jays returned to their home field Wednesday evening, after a devastating loss to West Plains on Monday night. Monday, the Varsity Jays lost to the Zizzer’s 1-8. In fairness to the Jays, they played hard, but were just no match for the 1-2 touch play of the West Plains team. The Jays only goal came off the boot of Robert Martin which kept the game from being a shut out.
The JV Jays faired much better beating the JV Zizzers . The JV Jays went to halftime 0-0, but came out the second half and took control. The first goal of the game was scored by the brothers, Callihan. Sam sent the ball up to Joe who found the back of the net to make the score 1-0. Then with nine minutes left in the half, Wes O’Neal planted one, off the throw in from CJ Obermaier. The final goal of the game, came when Josh Morgan headed the ball in the box with the assist once again from Obermaier. The JV Jays went on to win the match 3-0.
The Blues Jays took the field again on Wednesday against the Hillcrest Hornets. Much to the dismay of the home team spectators the Hornets came out ready to play and the Jays didn’t. Hillcrest put the ball into the box just 2 minutes into the match. The Jays just didn’t seem to have their playing shoes on. Again with 22:46 on the clock # 10 from Hillcrest put the ball in the net. Then again in stoppage time. This put the Jays down 0-3 at halftime.
Fortunately, the Blue Jays came back on the field ready to play. Just 2 minutes into the second half, Jesse Day scored with the assist from Ethan Jernigan. Making the score 1-3. Then, Robert Martin put the ball in the box from a penalty kick, thus making it 2-3. The Jays were playing fiercely. The tying shot came during stoppage time when Duell Wilson sent the ball up to Day again, to send the game into overtime. The golden goal came when Ethan Jernigan found the back of the net with the assist from CJ obermaier to make the final 4-3. Way to pull it off BLUE JAYS!!!
The next Jay game is Tuesday at Waynesville, game time 4:30. Senior Night will be Thursday Oct 25th at home, against Aurora. Also the Raffle drawing for the Ninetindeo Wii will be held that night. See a soccer player for info.
I would also like to apologize for not being more prompt but have been having computer trouble and cannot always get online. I do stand corrected about the info. about the Cental shut out, it has been brought to my attention that there has been at least one maybe 2 other shut outs before . Thanks for the correction. Let’s keep playing hard. GO JAYS!

Blue Jays Surprise Lakers

Monday, October 1st, 2007

The Camdenton Lakers came to Marshfield, Monday, in 2 buses. That’s how many players they have signed up in their soccer program. The Marshfield crowd may have been surprised by the amount of players but the Lakers were surprised by the intensity of the play from the Blue Jays. The teams fought hard for the entire 1st half of the game, both teams remaining scoreless until the last 5 minutes of the half. Then, Ethan Replogle put one past the Laker keeper putting Marshfield on the board first. Robert Martin got the assist. The fact that the Jays scored first floored the Lakers, who were expecting a much easier go of it. Then with stoppage time on the clock the Lakers managed to get one past goalkeep Willis Zirschky to make the score 1-1 going into halftime.
The second half saw just as intesive play, with the Lakers getting several yellow cards as they tried to break the tie. They finally managed just that, with 18 minutes left on the clock. The Jays continued to keep the pressure on but just couldn’t capitalize on their shots at goal. Camdenton eventually put one more in the box with 8 minutes left in the game. The final score was 1-3. The Jays have really stepped up their game as last year, the Lakers scored 7 goals. Good Job Jays!
The JV Jays didn’t have the drive they normally exhibit. After playing three games on Saturday, the boys were exhausted and it showed. Although they tried they just didn’t have it. The final was 0-4.
The Jays fly to Springfield tomorrow to play New Covenant, game time is 4:00.

Congratulations to the Blue Jays JV Team!!!

Monday, October 1st, 2007

The JV Jays came home from the Willard JV Tournament Saturday with a second place finish. GOOD JOB JAYS!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Blue Jays put the Bulldogs in the Doghouse

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Wow! History was made on the Marshfield soccer pitch last night. For the first time in the history of the program the Jays got a mercy ruling in their favor. What a night!!! After the game, Coach Richardson had this to say about his team,”I think we have stepped up to a higher level of team play. I am proud of the way we have come together as a team, it shows in our performance and level of competition. I am also proud of the history we are making in the Marshfield soccer program. Our record is at 500, 6-6, which we have never had this late in the season. Plus we got our first mercy ruling.” The game itself was a pleasure to watch as the Jays really pounded the Central Bulldogs.
The action started just minutes into the game when Robert Martin planted the first goal, off the assist of Ethan Jernigan, the clock read 36:37. Then later, in a jumble at the box, a misplaced header off a Jay, scored the only goal for the Bulldogs. But, that was the one and only one that the Bulldogs would get. With 26 minutes left in the half, Jernigan got a goal of his own, with the assist of C.J. Obermeirer. At minute 24, Robert Martin scored again, with Obermeirer again getting the assist. The clock read 14:40 when Ethan Jernigan blasted another ball into the box, with the assist coming from Drew Thomas. The final goal of the half came off, the boot of Ethan Replogle, assisted by Martin. Halftime score 5-1.
The second half was much the same as the first. The Jays just overpowered the younger Central team. Willis Zirschky was assisted by Robert Martin to score, just a minute and 20 seconds into the half. A few minutes later Zirschky assisted Ethan Jernigan for another goal. With 28 minutes left in the game Jesse Day scored goal number 8 for the Jays. C.J.Obermeirer brought the score to 9-1,,with 25 minutes to go. With 19 minutes left of the match, Jesse Day got goal # 10. Then when the clock had 8 minutes left to go, Willis Zirschky scored the mercy goal with the assist from Drew Thomas. Thus giving the Jays their first mercy ruling ever!!!! Of course, it took the entire team to make all this happen and the entire team deserves the kudos. Special appreciation should be given to the defenders, Duell Wilson, Zeb Howard, Kyle Cary, D.J.Hensley, Sam Callihan and goalkeep, Cory Dotson. Without their hard work the results of this game would have been very different. GREAT JOB JAYS!!!!

The JV Jays also had a good night. They pulled off a shut out of their own. The first half had Wes O’Neal scoring just 5 minutes into the game. Next, came a goal from Joe Callihan. Followed by another goal for O’Neal and one from Cory Dotson. Thus going to halftime 4-0.
The second half had Freshmen D.J.Hensley and Evan Barth both planting the ball in the box to make the final 6-0. It was a fine night all around for the Marshfield Soccer Program.
The JV team has a tournament this weekend in Willard. They will be showing up as the returning Champions. The bus will be leaving the school at 7:00 a.m.
Regular season play resumes Monday at home against Camdenton,at 4:30. Then Tuesday ,the Jays travel to New Covenant to face the team for the 3rd time this season. Game time: 4:00, note this 1/2 hour earlier than usual. I believe varsity will play first because of lack of field lights. GO JAYS!!!

Blue Jays Tackle Tigers

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

The Blue Jays came home with a fourth place finish from the Liberator Classic, Saturday. They lost to New Covenant 0-3. But, the results were markedly different last night, when the Jays took the Willard Tiger’s by the tail.
The Jay’s journeyed to the Tiger’s home pitch to do battle against the Willard team. The Tiger’s drew first blood in the first half of the game. But, before the half was over, the Jay’s returned fire with a goal off the foot of Ethan Replogle, the assist from Ethan Jernigan. The score stayed 1-1 at halftime.
The second half was a tough fight through it’s entirety. There were a few fouls called on both sides and the play was intense for both teams. Finally, in the last 2 minutes stoppage time, the Jay’s Ethan Jernigan put one in the back of the box with an assist from Robert Martin. This gave the Jay’s a victory and put their record at 5-6 for the season.
The JV team played after the varsity due to weather conditions. The Jay’s came out strong and scored when Drew Thomas put one in the box ,with the assist of Colton Harden, with 28 minutes left in the half. The JV team scored a total of 4 goals, with Drew Thomas getting another unassisted goal. Then Eddie Lovan scored with the assist from Thomas. Cory Dotsun also got a goal of his own from a PK.
The Willard JV team rallied to come from behind and tie the game in the second half. The final score was 4-4.
The Blue Jays will host Springfield Central at home, Thursday, Sept., 27th at 4:40. GO JAYS!!

Jays 1-1 In Liberator Tournament

Friday, September 21st, 2007

The strain of playing three games in 4 days showed, Thursday, when the Blue Jays played Warrensburg in the first game of the Bolivar Tournament. The Jays just never settled into the game, they just had an off night. Final 0-3
Friday night, however, was a different story. The Marshfield Blue Jays showed up to play. The game with Greenwood was intense and rough, as any match with Greenwood is.The play of the half was when keeper Cory Dotsun blocked a Greenwood penalty kick to keep the score 0-0, in the last two minutes of the half.
With 33 minutes remaining in the second half, Robert Martin scored the only goal of the game off the assist from Ethan Jernigan. This put the Jays in the lead 1-0. The Jays kept their advantage with much help from the defenders Duell Wilson, Zeb Howard, Drew Thomas, Kyle Cary and DJ Hensley. Final Score 1-0. GREAT JOB MARSHFIELD! Go Jays!!
