First of all, thank you very much to "HS Ref" for his/her comment. Our main objective was to open up discussion on the main subject matter of the need for 3 refs. Whether it is commenting here, thinking of a plan to improve the situation, or actually taking action, our objective is being realized.

However, we would like to address some of the issues that were brought to light:

1) If the call in question had been in our favor, the same criticism would have followed. The accuracy of a call is an absolute and not a relative matter. It is not determined by the bias of the fan.
2) As far as the positioning of the spectator in this case, the actual play needs to be analyzed closer. If contact is made, the offensive player stumbles and falls barely inside of the penalty area, the laws of physics (which are not suspended during soccer games) would apply to show the contact was made outside of the box. Also, videos do not lie.
3) The positioning regarding offsides actually proves the main point here. To properly call offsides, a ref has to be even with the offensive player. This begs the necessity for two AR's.
4) As far as the level of contact not making a difference, I must respectfully disagree. A quick review of the MSHSAA physical examination form has a top category listed as "Contact collision (football, soccer, wrestling, etc.). " Clearly, soccer is a contact sport. If every small level of contact is called a foul, the game would be virtually unplayable.
5) Since our school does not charge for admission, the $85 could be paid easily with an admission charge. For schools that have been charging for admission, the extra money has been accruing for some time now.
6) During our last club season, we noticed several refs who we knew from other sources. We asked them, and after that almost every other ref, and every one of them agreed that they did not ref high school games that only had two refs - period. We have even had honest refs admit this school year that calls were probably missed due to having only 2 refs.
7) I have personally addressed this issue with our AD. I would encourage others in the conference to do the same.
8 ) I agree that more qualified refs are needed. I am incredibly familiar with the Rules Book and have plans to pursue becoming an official after soccer nights are more open on the schedule. Others should consider doing this as well.

Again, the request in question is for the safety of the players and the sanctity of a beautiful game.

I find your editorial amusing at best. This author of this site seems to frequently find a way to be critical of the referee in a loss. It is also amusing to me that somehow a spectator is in better position to determine the spot of a foul from the bleachers than the official on the field. This is about as laughable as spectators somehow being in a better position to determine offsides. You cited the rule correctly, but did make one incorrect statement. There is no rule that dictates the level of contact for which a foul is to be called. If you contact and foul a player, it is a foul.
Now to the meat of the matter. Yes, a 3 official system is better. It is up to you to convince your schools to up the ante and pay for 3. Your local officials association has address this issue and has had some progress in getting schools to allow 3 officials to some games. The cost itself is not minimal as you state. It would cost the school an additional $85 per home game to accomodate the work and transportation of this new official. You also state that we would attract better officials if we had a 3 official system. That is partly true, but some of the same officials you have complained about on this site actaully are very highly rated USSF and college officials. There are a small handful of quality officials left that choose to not do high school, but not just for the 3 official reason. They also cite the abuse from players/parents/coaches from certain schools as reasons not to work. If you really want to make a difference, contact your local AD. Encourage them to use a 3 official system, encourage them to make conference games a 3 official system with the other ADs. Then I encourage you to pick up a whistle and encourage others to do the same that are able, contact MSHSAA and your local assigner and become an official.

Is 6-6 really that good?

The first goal was actually when I had the ball at the 18, played Colton in the middle, he took a touch and hit it.

Well... bummer! Enough of that. Now what I saw was some spurts of great play. Yes, Nic is my nephew, but he was pummeled with shot after shot and just kept doing his absolute best! Very proud of him. Also, I heard people in the Ozark crowd talking about Nic's skills which made me one proud aunt. Everywhere I looked, I seemed to see red hair in the midst of the action (good job, Colton). Evan - you played with more gusto than I've ever seen you do even at the club games this summer. Glad the first game is out of the way and you guys can now concentrate on your inevitable future wins. Can't wait for an exciting season.
